Paper Bliss #2 – Easy Card Making in 5 Simple Steps

If you’ve ever wanted to try card making but felt overwhelmed by all the tools, techniques, and time involved – this lesson is for you!  Welcome to Paper Bliss, where we simplify creativity and make card making fun, fast and absolutely joyful.

In Lesson 2, I’ll walk you through how to make a beautiful handmade card using just 5 easy steps.  Whether you’re new to crafting or just short on time, you’ll love how approachable and satisfying this process can be.

 What You’ll Need –

  • A blank card base

  • Patterned paper

  • Sentiment stamp or printed phrase

  • Adhesive – Tape Runner, Liquid Glue, Dimensional Tape or Foam Dots

  • Optional Embellishments – Gems, Ribbon, Washi Tape, etc

The 5 Simple Steps to Card Making Bliss –

1. Choose Your Color Theme

Start by picking 2–3 coordinating colors or patterns that reflect your mood or occasion.

2. Cut and Layer Your Paper

Trim your patterned paper to fit the card front, leaving a border.  Layer a smaller contrasting piece in the center.

3. Add a Sentiment

Stamp or adhere your sentiment to the front — this could be “Thank You,” “Happy Birthday,” etc or any message you love.

4. Embellish Simply

Add just a few embellishments like gems, stickers, or ribbon to give it personality without clutter.

5. Assemble and Finish

Glue everything in place, let it dry and bang – your handmade card is complete!

Christmas Wishes – Across the Waves Christmas Card

Today I’m excited to share a joyful and easy-to-make Christmas card created with the Christmas Wishes Card Collection.  This card takes inspiration from the Across the Waves theme this month – Dots or Stripes.  Be sure to check out what Robbie has created.

Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned card maker, this project comes together quickly with just a few supplies. Let’s dive in!

Card Design –

The arch window works well here giving the Christmas Wishes Paper a fun, modern colour palette that you could easily turn into a shaker card.  It allows the bauble to shine without taking over the whole show.

Supplies You’ll Need –
  • Card Base – White Cardstock – 8 1/4″ x 5 7/8″ / 20.9cm x 14.9cm

  • Christmas Wishes Collection – Uniquely Creative

  • Stitched Arches Die – Uniquely Creative

  • Coordinating Cardstock – Reds, Greens or Golds

  • Sentiment Strip or Christmas Stamp

  • Adhesive – Tape Runner, Liquid Glue

  • Foam Tape for dimension

  • Embellishments – Sequins, Gems, Enamel Dots, etc

Measurements –

Card Base – 8 1/4″ x 5 7/8″ / 20.9cm x 14.9cm

Cardstock/Paper –

  • Layer 1 – 1 x 3 7/8″ x 5 5/8″ / 9.8cm x 14.2cm
  • Layer 2 – 1 x 3 3/4″ x 5 1/2″ / 9.5cm x 13.9cm
  • Layer 3 – 1 x 3″ x 3 3/4″ / 7.6cm x 9.5cm

Sentiment Strip –

  • 1 x Sentiment Strip or stamp sentiment onto White Cardstock – 3″ x 1/4″ / 7.6cm x .6cm

Tips & Variations –
  • Swap traditional reds and greens for icy blues and golds for a modern look.

  • Try stitching along the wave edges for extra texture.

  • Make multiples in one go – this layout is easy to batch-produce!
