The Paper Funday Challenge | February | Pastel Colours

G’Day Friends,

Once again it’s time for our challenge over at The Paper Funday Challenges where this month our sponsors are Pretty Pink Posh & Lawn Fawn.  I’ve gone with the Twist – Pastel Colours to create a sweet & simple birthday card that’s all about texture, softness & a little fun.

I started with an embossing folder to create a subtle background full of beautiful raised detail.  To keep everything cohesive, I paired it with patterned paper featuring small dots & plaid which echoes the texture of the embossing without overwhelming the design.  This small detail really helps tie the whole card together.

For the focal point, I used die cut balloons with both cardstock & pattern paper, layering them slightly for dimension. Balloons are such a classic birthday element and they work perfectly here to keep the card light and celebratory.

The colour palette stays firmly in the realm of soft pastels — gentle pinks, purples and soft neutral colours — giving the card a calm, cheerful feel that works for any age.  Foam Tape adds subtle height and finishes everything off with a simple sentiment so the textures and colours can really shine.

Supply List

  • Bubble Gum Cardstock – Stampin’ Up!

Across the Waves | Creating with Pattern Paper

G’Day Friends,

There’s something quietly beautiful about sitting down with a piece of patterned paper and seeing where the moment takes you.  Today’s project is all about soft florals, worn textures and that unmistakable vintage charm.

Be sure to check out what Robbie has created!

A Palette of Calm

I reached for hues of blue and green — gentle, muted shades that feel both nostalgic and calming.  Together, they evoke the feeling of faded garden postcards and weathered pages in an old scrapbook.  There’s a softness to these tones that makes every piece feel timeless.

Chopping It Into Pieces

The heart of this project lies in a simple technique: cutting the patterned paper into pieces. It’s such a satisfying way to create balance and rhythm in your layout.  Each section tells its own story while still feeling part of a whole.  Layering them for cardmaking adds instant depth and interest.

Embracing the Vintage Feel

I’ve always loved that slightly aged aesthetic — the look of paper that’s been handled, faded and loved.  Add a stamped sentiment or a few die-cut leaves or shapes and suddenly it all feels like a memory you can hold.

A Creative Pause

There’s no rush when crafting pieces like these.  It’s a gentle, mindful process — the kind of creativity that feels as soothing as it looks.  A few scraps of paper, a good cup of tea and a quiet afternoon can go a long way.

So if you’ve got a stash of patterned papers waiting for their moment, try chopping them into pieces and see what stories unfold.  You might just find a bit of vintage magic hiding in the layers.

Watch the Tutorial

If you’d like to see the process step-by-step, there’s a video tutorial available on my YouTube channel.  In the video, I walk through how I select the papers, trim them into pieces and layer each piece to achieve that vintage-inspired look.  It’s relaxed, simple and perfect for an afternoon of crafting.

Easy Birthday Card | Thumping Technique | Across the Waves

G’Day Friends,

Looking for a simple but stunning handmade card idea?  Today’s project combines Coastal Colours of Coastal Cabana, Basic Grey & Night of Navy to create an easy birthday card that works beautifully for any season.

Throught out the month of September, Robbie & myself are sharing ideas & inspiring on creating projects with the Thumping Technique.

Check out Robbie’s project HERE.

The thumping technique is a fun way to add texture and depth to stamped images.  Paired with glimmer paper and a bold leaf design, this project is quick, elegant and easily customizable.

Why you’ll love this project:

  • Easy enough for beginners.

  • Beautiful results in under 20 minutes.

  • Can be adapted for male or female cards just by changing colours.

Supplies Used

  • Leaf stamp – any large leaf image works – Georgeous Leaves Stamp Set

  • Ink pads in coastal/sea-inspired shades – e.g., Coastal Cabana, Pool Party, Bermuda Bay

  • Markers for the thumping technique – Basic Grey, Night of Navy

  • White cardstock – White Smooth – Paper Rose Studio

  • Glimmer paper (gold or silver) – Blue colours

  • Sentiment stamp (Happy Birthday or your choice)

  • Adhesive & trimmer

Step-by-Step

  1. Ink your leaf stamp with a light base colour.

  2. Use markers to “thump” randomly over the stamp – tap the tip lightly in different shades to create dimension.

  3. Stamp onto cardstock for a multicolour, textured look.

  4. Add a strip or die-cut piece of glimmer paper for sparkle.

  5. Stamp your sentiment and assemble the card.

  6. Finish with a small bow from twine & embellishment.

Variations

  • Masculine Card:  Swap coastal shades for deep blues, greens or earth tones (e.g., Mossy Meadow, Night of Navy, Early Espresso).

  • Autumn Card: Use Pumpkin Pie, Cajun Craze, Crushed Curry and Cherry Cobbler for warm fall vibes.

  • Birthday Card: Keep it light and bright with teals and aqua shades plus silver glimmer.

Check out the step-by-step video tutorial by clicking on the graphic below showing how to put the card together from start to finish.

Until next time – stay inspired & keep creating!
