Anything Goes Saturday | Birthday Card | Nature-Inspired

G’Day Friends,

I’m back after taking August off for a little recharging of the batteries.  Sometimes, we just have to have a little downtime for ourselves.

Anyhow, I’m starting off with this month’s Anything Goes Saturday with an easy birthday card created with the fantastic Field Notes Card Making Kit by Uniquely Creative.

Be sure to click HERE to see what Robbie has created.

There’s something magical about creating a birthday card with a nature-inspired theme.  You can nearly smell the eucalyptus trees, feel the glow of the campfire, see the tents tucked between the gums and a sky scattered with stars — it’s nature’s party venue.

The beauty of easy card making is that it doesn’t need to be fancy.  A folded card, a hand-drawn starry sky or a leaf taped inside as a keepsake — that’s all it takes.

Sometimes, the best birthday cards are simple!

Supplies

  • Field Notes Card Making Kit – Uniquely Creative
  • Basic white Smooth Cardstock – Paper Rose Studio
  • Misty Moonlight Cardstock – Stampin’ Up!
  • Birthday Wishes Stamp & Dies – Gina K Designs

The best part about this card?  Anyone can create it.  Your card doesn’t have to be perfect.  It just needs to be created for that someone special & they will love it!

Sentiment-First – Day 7 of the Just for Him Series

G’Day Friends,

Welcome to the final day of our 7 Days, 7 Cards – Just for Him series!  We’re closing things out with Sentiment-First, a design where the words take centre stage.  Sometimes, all you need is a bold, heartfelt sentiment to make a card that speaks volumes.  Perfect for Father’s Day, birthdays, thinking of you or just because.

Why Sentiment-First?

For masculine cards, less is often more.  A strong sentiment – stamped, embossed or die-cut – can be the star of your design.  By keeping the layout simple, the message becomes the most powerful part of the card.

Step-by-Step – Sentiment-First Card

  1. Start with a Base – Keep it simple with kraft, white or navy.
  2. Choose a Bold Sentiment – Stamp, emboss or die-cut a greeting that stands out.
  3. Keep the Background Simple – Use subtle texture (embossing folder, tone-on-tone pattern or plain cardstock).
  4. Add Your Sentiment – Centre it or place it off to one side for a modern look.
  5. Optional Embellishments – A few enamel dots or a thin border strip for balance.

Perfect For:

  • Father’s Day – heartfelt and bold
  • Birthdays – strong and to the point
  • Just Because – when you want your words to shine

Day 6 of the Just for Him Series – Metallic Accents

G’Day Friends,

Welcome to Day 6 of our 7 Days, 7 Cards – Just for Him series!  Today’s theme is Metallic Accents, where a touch of shimmer takes a masculine design from simple to sophisticated. Think silver, gold or copper details that add polish without going over the top.  Perfect for Father’s Day, birthdays, thinking of you or just because.

Why Metallic Accents?

Metallics bring instant elegance and style to handmade cards.  They’re bold enough to stand out but versatile enough to pair with any colour palette.  A little shine goes a long way, making your card look polished and professional with minimal effort.

Supplies You’ll Need

  • Card base (black, navy or deep grey works beautifully) – brown here to blend in with the Metallics
  • Metallic cardstock or foil paper (gold, silver or copper) – gold, copper & bronze on today’s card
  • Neutral cardstock for layering (white, grey, or cream) – Vanilla
  • Adhesive – tape runner or glue
  • Sentiment stamp or metallic embossing powder – stamped with a brown that blends in
  • Optional: metallic brads, enamel dots or ribbon – metallic dots & gold twine

Step-by-Step: Metallic Accents Card

  1. Choose a Dark Base – Metallics shine best against a black, navy, or deep grey base.
  2. Add Metallic Layers – Cut strips, shapes or panels from foil cardstock.
  3. Balance with Neutrals – Layer in some white or grey panels to keep the look crisp.
  4. Stamp or Emboss – Use metallic ink or embossing powder for your sentiment.
  5. Finish with Shine – Add just one or two metallic embellishments – less is more!

Perfect For:

  • Father’s Day – classy and striking
  • Birthdays – a polished, grown-up look
  • Just Because – when you want to send a stylish note

Hobby-Inspired – Day 5 of the Just for Him Series

G’Day Friends,

Welcome to Day 5 of our 7 Days, 7 Cards – Just for Him series!  Today’s theme is Hobby-Inspired, where we design cards based on the hobbies, passions and interests of the men in our lives.  Whether it’s sports, music, travel, or tools, this is your chance to make a truly personal card.

Why Hobby-Inspired?

Adding a personal touch makes any card more meaningful.  By tailoring your design to his favorite hobby or pastime, you create something that feels thoughtful and one-of-a-kind. These cards are especially fun to make because you can adapt them to fit anyone’s personality!

Supplies You’ll Need –

  • Neutral card base (white, kraft, or black) – I went for a colour that suits the theme
  • Hobby-themed patterned paper or stamps (sports, music notes, maps, tools, etc.) – trees, bushes, stumps, wood on my card with a little ink sponging around the edges
  • Coloured cardstock scraps for layering – vanilla is always a good option, especially with neutral colours
  • Adhesive – tape runner or glue
  • Sentiment stamp or printed greeting – love this vertical sentiment
  • Optional: themed embellishments (buttons, stickers, die-cuts) – star die cuts

Step-by-Step: Hobby-Inspired Card

  1. Pick a Theme – Choose a hobby that matches the recipient (e.g., soccer, guitar, fishing, travel) – camping
  2. Create a Background – Use patterned paper or stamped images that reflect that hobby – Into the Woods 6 x 6 Paper Collection
  3. Add a Focal Point – Place one bold hobby-themed image or die-cut in the center – tent & lamp
  4. Stamp a Sentiment – Choose a phrase like You Rock, Happy Birthday or Adventure Awaits – Happy Birthday on my card
  5. Add Accents – Embellish with themed stickers, buttons or keep it simple for a clean look – die cut stars in 3 colours

Perfect For:

  • Father’s Day – personalized around his favorite pastime
  • Birthdays – hobby-focused and fun
  • Just Because – a thoughtful way to say you care
