Guest Designer….

Sometime ago I was asked to be a Guest Designer over at Christmas Cards All Year Round.  Thank you so much Tracey for asking!

This site has been going for some time now & I have followed it for quiet awhile, although I must admit, have not participated in their challenges for so long.  This site is a great way to complete those Christmas cards ready for posting come 1 December!

Anyhow, on with the challenge.

The challenge this month was to –

 
TWINKLE-TWINKLE Christmas Lights

Multi-colored or clear, embossed or bling, strings or singles, vintage or new, bright or dull, broken or whole …inspriation is limitless! Make it electric and fun.
 
Measurements –
Base Card – Crumb Cake – 11 3/4″ x 4 1/8″ or 30cm x 10.5cm – scored in half & fold in the middle
Layer 1 – Glimmer Paper – 1/2″ x 4 1/8″ or 1cm x 10.5cm
Layer 2 – Whisper White – 1/2″ x 4 1/8″ or 1cm x 10.5cm
Layer 3 – Glimmer Paper – 2 1/4″ x 4 1/8″ or 5.5cm x 10.5cm
Layer 4 – Riding Hood Red – 2 1/2″ x 2 3/4″ or 6.5cm x 7cm
Layer 5 – Whisper White – 2 3/8″ x 2 5/8″ or 6cm x 6.5cm
 
Supplies –
Stamp Set – Dasher, Short & Sweet
Ink – Riding Hood Red, Versamark
Cardstock – Riding Hood Red, Whisper White, Crumb Cake, Glimmer Paper Red
Ribbon – 5/8″ Organza – White
Punches – Scallop Trim Border
Embossing Folder – Petals a Plenty
Accessories – Stampin’ Dimensionals, Snail Adhesive, Multipurpose Glue, Pearls, Black Journal Writer, Heat Tool, Embossing Powder – Clear
 
I punched the narrower piece of Glimmer Paper along one of the long sides using the Scallop Trim Border Punch.  I attached the piece of Whisper White Cardstock along the edge of the punched line with Snail Adhesive.
 
The larger piece of Glimmer Paper was run through the Bigshot using the Embossing Folder – Petals a Plenty and adhered it to the top of the Whisper White Cardstock so that a small piece of the White was showing.  This breaks up the red on red.  In hindsite, I should have added another smaller piece of White to the other side, but only thought of it when everything had been completed.
 
Dasher was stamped in Versamark & then Riding Hood Red Ink prior to being stamped onto the small piece of Whisper White Cardstock, heat set with the Heat Tool & then adhered to the piece of Riding Hood Red with Snail Adhesive.  I adhered a small piece of Ribbon to the side, applied Stampin’ Dimensionals & adhered to the Base Card.
 
Pearls were adhered to the antelers & around his neck for some bling.  His eye was marked using the Black Journal Marker.  The greeting was stamped in Riding Hood Ink.

I did mention previously that I was way behind in my posting, so I am going to try & catch up, but the hard part is thinking what cards I have created & where they are – have I already posted them, given them away????

The card today is one we created at my Friday’s Volunteer Class.  We had lots of fun with this card, but I was a little cruel to the ladies.  I actually forgot to take my punch, so had to quickly make up a couple of pages of different size hearts on the computer so they could complete their card.

Measurements –
Base Card – Very Vanilla – 8 1/4″ x 4 1/8″ or 21cm x 15cm – Scored in the middle & folded in half
Layer 1 – DSP – 3 7/8″ x 5 5/8″ or 14cm x 10cm
Layer 2 – Soft Suede – 4 3/4″ x 2″ or 12cm x 5cm
Layer 3 – DSP – 4 5/8″ x 1 7/8″ or 11.5cm x 4.5cm

Ink – Blushing Bride, Soft Suede

Inside Card…

Cardstock – Very Vanilla, Soft Suede
DSP – IN Colours DSP
Ribbon – Crochet Trim – Chantilly
Punches – Full Heart, Oval, Scallop Oval
Brad – Antique Brads
Accessories – Mini Glue Dots, Sponge Daubers, Snail Adhesive, Tombow Multipurpose Glue

I grabbed my Sponge Dauber & inked around the edges of the large piece & small piece of DSP with Soft Suede Ink.  The large piece was adhered to the Base Card – Very Vanilla, while the smaller piece of DSP was adhered to the piece of Soft Suede Cardstock using Snail Adhesive.

Using the Full Heart Punch, I punched 20 hearts from the IN Colours DSP, sponged my Dauber around each heart with Soft Suede Ink, applied a small amount of Tombow Multipurpose Glue to the bottom part of the hearts & adhered them together ensuring that they were stacked on top of each other.  I made the flower so that it had 4 hearts for the base of the flower & then built on these 4 flowers.  In total you should have 5 layers on each heart.

Using my Bone Scorer, I turned up the edges of each petal to give the flower a little “character”.

I tied a double bow from the Crochet Ribbon, wrapped the Brad around the middle pror to adhering to the middle of the flower using a Mini Glue Dot.  The flower was then applied to the Base Card with a couple of Mini Glue Dots.

The sentiment was stamped onto a scrap piece of Very Vanilla Cardstock with Blushing Bride Ink, punched with the Oval Punch, sponged around the edges with Soft Suede Ink, adhered to a piece of Soft Suede Cardstock which had been punched with the Scallop Oval Punch & adhered to the Base Card.

Technique Class…

I’ve suddenly realised I haven’t been posting our cards we have been creating in the Technique Class which is held every second Sunday at the Caloundra Community Centre.  In this class we created 2 cards using the technique, although they may be slightly variations from card to card.

Today’s card was held a couple of weeks ago now, but still think it a beautiful card.  The inspiration for the card came from our current catalogue.  The Technique we used was Black Magic….. 

I know what you are syaing “Why would I do green flowers?”  Yep, I thought the same.  I used a yellow on the flowers, but because of dark Cardstock & the Old Olive Cardstock used for the Base Card, over about an hour or so, the colour slowly turned to green.

I know, going mad, you say.  Well I had convinced myself that I used a green pencil to colour, but much to my relief the same thing happened to the ladies in the class…..

It was my turn to create the challenge over at Sunny Challenges & Creations.  Along with the sketch, we had to use the Technique – Baby Wipe.

I started out with something completely different in mind & when I couldn’t get my mind onto paper, I sort of winged this one, but am more than happy with the end result.  As I love Pink & Black, I decided to create something a little softer with a lighter pink, but still teaming it with Black.  I also kept the card to a minimum as I wanted the technique to be the focal point.

Base Card – Whisper White – 8 1/4″ x 4 1/8″ or 21cm x 15cm – Scored in the middle & folded in half
Layer 1 – Basic Black – 5 1/8″ x 3 5/8″ or 13cm x 9.5cm
Layer 2 – Glossy Cardstock – 5″ x 5 1/2″ or 12.5cm x 9cm

Inside Card…

Supplies –
Stamp Set – Flower Fancy, Short & Sweet
Ink – Staz-On – Black
Cardstock  – Whisper White, Basic Black, Glossy, Pretty in Pink
Punches – Modern Label, Word Window, 1/16″ Circle Handheld
Ribbon – 1/8″ Taffeta – Pretty in Pink
Embossing Folder – Perfect Polka Dots
Accessories – Snail Adhesive, Tombow Multipurpose, Re-Inker – Pretty in Pink, Basic Pearl, Bigshot
Non-SU – Wet Ones

After I had applied my technique to my piece of Glossy Cardstock using Pretty in Pink Re-Inker & a Wet Ones, I stamped my image in the bottom LH corner of the cardstock with Black Staz-On.  I was going to colour it using the same Re-Inker, but thought I would leave it how it is & keep it very simple.  I then run the piece through the Bigshot using Embossing Folder – Prefect Polka Dots.  

I made a ink pad from the same Wet Ones I had previously used, using Pretty in Pink Re-Inker, inked my greeting & stamped direct onto a scrap piece of Glossy Cardstock.  This was punched out with the Word Window Punch & adhered to a piece of Basic Black Cardstock which had been punched with the Modern Label Punch.  I then punched a small hole in each end of the Basic Black Label with the 1/16″ Handheld Punch, threaded a piece of Pretty in Pink Taffeta Ribbon through, tucked the ends under & adhered to the piece of Basic Black Cardstock with Tombow Multipurpose Glue.

The whole piece was then adhered to the Base Card – Whisper White with Snail Adhesive.  I popped a Basic Pearl to the middle of the flower to finish the card.

I would really like to know what you think?  Is it too plain????

Technique Class….

I’m a little behind in posting the cards we have been doing at our Technique Class.  These have been running every 2nd Sunday arvo at the Caloundra Community Centre.  I am really enjoying them as it has gotten me out of my comfort zone & my thinking cap on as I try to cater for the tastes of everyone, while at the same time creating cards that are a little bit different. 

Each week we do one card that has a different fold & one standard card while still having fun doing our techniques.

This card was using the Acetate & Tissue Technique.  Combined with some Christmas DSP & a faithful stamp set that I don’t think you can beat – Lovely as a Tree and you have a great Christmas Card
