Recipe Friday…

On the last Friday of the month, we create 1 or 2 pages for our Recipe Book. Today’s page has been inspired by Mary Brown. I think she created her card some time ago, but I loved the layout & colours she used. I’ve turned it into a Recipe Page with a few minor changes.

Our recipe comes from Noreen’s Kitchen this month with her Grandma’s Biscuits. Who doesn’t love Nana’s cooking – I know I did. My Nana used to make the most yummiest pastry & my favourite was Apricot Tart – still is! Of course, no-one else can make it the same way she did!

Cardstock – Very Vanilla, More Mustard, Cherry Cobbler
DSP – Designer Series Pack – Neutrals
Ribbon – 1/4″ Grosgrain – Basic Black
Punch – Eyelet Border
Accessories – Snail Adhesive, Mini Glue Dots, Tombow, Rhinestone Brad – Crystal

Wow, the challenge this week over at Sunny Challenges & Creations is really out of my comfort sone, to say the least! I am really very happy with the result & LOVE “Distressing“!

Yep, this week our challenge has been brought to us by Libby. Along with the sketch, we had to use the Technique – Distressing. This technique is able to be created using many different ways.

Below are a couple of hints –
· Gently rub a distressing ink pad with a sponge and rub ink around the edges of paper
· Brush ink with a direct-to-paper technique (brush ink pad directly onto surface of paper with gentle strokes)
· Crumple paper, flatten, and rub distress inks on paper. Paper can be sprayed with water and dried a heat tool to set
· Sand the surfaces of your card stock to achieve an antique effect

Envelope & Inside Card…

Any of these techniques will give you an antique or vintage look which can vary with the colour and ink you use and how much you apply to the paper.

As soon as Libby set us this task, my mind went racing & immediately knew what colours I was going to use, BUT as to how I was going to go about it, well that is another story. In saying that, I did have a hard time trying to decide on my bit that runs along the bottom bit of the card. I tried so many ideas that I finally decided on what I ended up with & am glad I did, as I think it sets it off perfectly!

Measurements –
Base Card – Very Vanilla – 8 1/4″ x 5 3/4″ or 21cm x 15cm – Scored in middle & folded in half
Layer 1 – Not Quite Navy – 5 1/2″ x 3 7/8″ or 14cm x 10cm
Layer 2 – Watercolour Paper – 5 5/8″ x 3 3/4″ or 13.5cm x 9.5cm
Layer 3 – Very Vanilla – 5 5/8″ x 3/4″ or 13.5cm x 2cm

Supplies –
Stamp Set – French Foliage, Inspired By Nature
Ink – Versamark, Crumb Cake
Cardstock – Watercolour Paper, Not Quite Navy, Very Vanilla
Ribbon – 5/8″Crochet Trim – Victoria, Linen Thread
Accessories – Heat Tool, Embossing Powder – Clear, SU Markers, Pearls, Smooch Spritz – Very Vanilla, Distressing Kit, Snail Adhesive, Mini-Glue Dots

I really wanted to finished with my Base Card as Not Quite Navy, but cut both Layer 2 & 3 too big for that, so settled on Very Vanilla. Maybe next time, as I have a couple of samples that didn’t make this card!

After trying a couple of different ways to create my background, I finally used Watercolour Paper – soaks up the misting a lot faster & believe me, there is a LOT of misting on this card!

I also added a couple of elements to finish my card off. You could say “Vintage meets Shabby Chic”

…and for something totally different, but you will have to scroll down to the end to see that…….

Today I have sat myself down & created a coupl eof cards for different things….. I will post them over the next couple of days, so be sure to return to check them out.

This card was for the sketch over on Mary-Jo’s blog. In fact a really easy sketch, but I will admit I did have a hard time with the 3 little boxes on the top of the sketch, so in the end I switched them to suit my card. I hope she doesn’t mind, but one good thing about sketches is you can play with them to suit yourself, while at the same time not go too far outside the square, so to speak.

This was not the stamp set I had intended on using, but am happy with the result. I will put a senitment on when I go to use the card.

Measurements –
Base Card – Lucky Limeade – 8 1/4″ x 4 1/8″ or 21cm x 10.5cm – Scored in the middle & folded in half
Layer 1 – Whisper White – 5 3/4″ x 4″ or 14.5cm x 10cm
Layer 2 – Calyspo Coral – 5 1/4″ x 3 5/8″ or 13.35cm x 9cm
Layer 1 – Whisper White – 5 1/8″ x 3 1/2″ or 13cm x 8.5cm

Inside Card & Envelope…

I started my card by stamping random images onto the saller piece of Whisper White using Versamark Ink, poured Clear Embossing Powder over the whole lot, tapped off & Heat Embossed it. Once it was cool, I then grabbed some of the new “IN Colours” Inks of Lucky Limeade, Calyspo Coral & Pool Party, a sponge & sponged the inks randomly around the card until I thought it looked ok. I lightly wiped the excess ink off with a tissue.

This piece was layerd onto Calyspo Coral & a Ribbon tied across the centre, tucked the ends under, adhered to the 2nd piece of Whisper White & then finally to the Base Card – Lucky Limeade. I tied a bow which was adhered to the card with Mini Glue Dots.

Close Up of Embossed Leaves & Background…

?? For my 3 leaves up the top of the card, I stamped Versamark onto Calypso Coral & Lucky Limeade Cardstock, Heat Embossed using Clear Embossing Powder, cut around images & adhered to the card using Snail Adhesive & Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Gosh, when I read the above, this card should of took me all of about 5 minutes, but in fact it took me about 2 hours, as I kept chopping & changing my mind.

Now for that something different – THE MESS……………………….. I don’t know about anyone esle, but for some reason I always find myself with this….. I suppose it would help to put things away after each card, but hey, that is way tooooooooooo easy!!!! Mind you, this is only AFTER 2 cards!!!!
